Kaupapa | Our Purpose

To create an ecological and recreational showcase for residents and visitors.
Along with significant volunteer input and community engagement, this project has been supported by Matamata-Piako District Council, Waikato Ecological Restoration Trust (Tamahere Nursery), Awarua Trust, and Transpower Community Care Fund.
How We Did It

Outcomes

Several successful plantings since 2022. In 2024/25 we planted nearly 800 native plants at 3 locations.

Involvement of local volunteers and schools in planting and weeding events.

Improvements to biodiversity and habitats and stabilisation of river banks.

Improvement to aesthetics along the river walk.

Ongoing opportunities to engage in meaningful conservation efforts with community organisations, volunteers and adjoining property owners.
